North Bend Hero Gets Name in Lights! Burt Mann Turns 98!
Have you ever dreamed of getting your name in lights?! Well North Bend local celebrity Burt Mann was honored the other day by the North Bend Theatre with his name on the marquee on his birthday! What an honor for this living legend!
Living Legend Burt Mann Walks Daily
Driving through North Bend you will see Burt walking most mornings. at 98 years old he takes his time, makes sure the weather is acceptable and does his daily walk from his house down the street. He will often stop at his favorite bench, recently named in his honor by the City of North Bend, and take in the beauty of Mount Si!
Burt has rarely missed an opportunity to walk, telling me in our meetings that he only stays in when its too wet and cold. If the weather isn't too bad he will bundle up with hat, gloves, and jacket and get moving!
Always Shares His Story
Burt Mann loves to share his story. He loves to talk to people and he loves to hear how you are doing. I remember the first time I walked with him and chatted he reminded me of my Grandpa. Both served in WWII, both grew up in trying times, and both had an attitude of positivity and joy that makes me wonder why I would ever complain. Burt grew up in Chicago and was often on the streets when he was young. His story of meeting his wife, surviving poverty, WWII and beyond is remarkable.
People Love Burt!
